Originally hailing from London (the Morris capital of the world – not) Amanda moved to Wantage in Bucks/Oxon.
A promising career in amateur dramatics was almost cut short when Morris men invaded the local society to ‘help out’ with a production (hi to the Ickneild way boys). Copious amounts of beer were drunk on (and off) set, and with her then fiancée enticed and hooked all was lost. Having spent a good few years wondering where the errant fiancée went on a Wednesday night and missing out on numerous weekends of fun(!) she decided to bite the bullet and take the plunge when she moved to Suffolk in 1998, and joined the Green Dragons. Am dram has slowly been decreasing as Morris has taken its inevitable hold and now she belongs to 2 sides: Green Dragon and the Haverhill Harlots (ooh err missis)..and, vaguely, 1 am dram society
Sadly for Amanda there is no hope of reclaiming the honest and innocent past she has lost. The seemingly I-can-stop-any-time-I-want un-addictive Morris has led on to worse pursuits: she plays both the melodeon and the washboard (the most traditional of Morris instruments!) and even listens to folk music, and worse, skiffle (don’t tell) but says it’s the only way to really tune a washboard.
She went 2 steps further and married the errant fiancée (now also Green Dragon dancer) and even produced a new Morris member to maintain the sides heritage, she may be only 8 months old but she has a tatter jacket and violin (thanks HH).
